Follow Me
Happy Friday!  What a week we had, right? The storm kept me home on Monday because we weren't plowed until 8pm...oy! But then I went back to work Tuesday - Thursday and will be working from home today, as usual.  Unfortunately I missed two events on Monday (the LXR & Co. Brunch & the Kaelen presentation) BUT I got to go to the Kate Spade Saturday exclusive preview party on Wednesday! I'll tell you more about that on Monday.

As you can see, I have a new item on this week! My CHANEL BLAZER!!! EEEP! I alluded to the purchase in this post revealing my Burberry Prorsum dress.  This was definitely a really lucky find at Roundabout Resale.  I paid $400 for it...can you say AMAZING!  After some research I found that it is from Autumn 1998, it's amazing how a classic item really can stand the test of time (duh, that's why it's classic.) Needless to say I am obsessed and can't wait to wear it more!

I have also decided to try and wear all my blazers over the next few weeks. It's such a shame that they don't get as much wear as I would like, but they make it difficult to wear coats and those are definitely a necessity in the city. But I'm going to suck it up and wear them, even if I have to carry them while I walk! ;)

Monday: Blazer: The Extreme Collection (Second Time Around Vintage), Top: Equipment (Marshall's), Jeans: Rag & Bone (Shobop), Booties: No.704b. (DSW),  Watch: Michael Kors (Lord & Taylor)

Tuesday: Blazer: Chanel (Roundabout Resale) Tee: H&M, Jeans: Free People (Gilt Groupe), Flats: Liz Claiborne (DSW), Necklace: Francesca's, Watch: Michael Kors (Lord & Taylor)
Thursday: Sweater: Madewell (Shobop), Vest: French Connection (Marshall's) Jeans: Genetic Denim c/o Piperlime, Boots: Grandma's Brooch: Laila Rowe, Watch: Michael Kors (Lord & Taylor)

And a detail shot of my alligator :)
Happy Valentine's Day!!! Since I don't have my own Valentine, I'm giving away a fun pink skull cuff from Jules Smith which retails for $49!  The jewelry line was founded by Gina Nigrelli-Smith; "her design aesthetic swaggers back and forth from 60s post-modern to 70s boho and 80s glam."  The pieces range from simple and classic to edgy, so there's something for everyone! I'm personally obsessed with the Snake Charmer Cuff and Lucky Strike Necklace (Harry Potter Forever!)

A couple weeks ago I did a post rounding up some of the ways I have styled my clothes to get the most bang for my buck.  Let's continue that post today, shall we?  As I stated in my first post, it is pointless to buy an item and not wear it often.  Cost per wear is one of the most important things I think about when buying an item.  For those of you that don't know what that is, here is a quick lesson: price of item ÷ by number of times worn = true cost

This philosophy doesn't always work, sometimes you need to spend more money for quality or a piece you really love (see: Chanel), but it is a great general rule of thumb.  Try to get the cost/wear as low as you can, if you make it under $1...AMAZING!  Thrifting is a great way to find items that will cost next to nothing in the long run. However, be careful not to be seduced by a really low price, if you won't wear it: don't buy it!

I think my best purchase to date has been my Marc by Marc Jacobs Baby Aidan purse (seen throughout the images above.) I bought it in July 2011 and it has rarely left my arm since.  It is my main work purse, so that's 5 days a week plus I use it a lot on weekends as well.  I do make sure to rotate my other bags in as well, but I use it 80% of the time.  My mom was shocked when I spent $320 on it, looks like the joke is on her now because I have probably gotten the cost down to at least 95¢ per wear ;)
Since we were snowed in all weekend I wasn't able to get any outfit pictures done, I figured I would share some of my favorite looks from New York Fashion Week up until this point!  All my favorites may be seen in this lookbook on Style.com (there are 140 so far.) I will be updating that lookbook throughout fashion month so keep checking back! :)

Yes, the post title is a reference to Dori in Finding Nemo, I'm so clever ;)

Well this weekend certainly didn't go as planned!  The snow started around 9am Friday morning and didn't stop until some time Saturday morning (I slept until 10 and when I woke up it had stopped.)  Our cars were completely covered in snow...insane!  My roommate & I had to clear off our cars and the driveway in two shifts because it was so cold and so much snow!!  But we finally finished around 4, sadly the plows hadn't reached our street yet... As of Sunday we are STILL snowed in...it is TORTURE! So sadly I am missing the event I was hoping to attend for NYFW...

Enjoy some amusing photos from our shoveling adventure. As you can see I changed outfits because I got SOAKING wet during our first round of cleaning.

DONE!
This week was back to business, I was so glad to be able to get back into the office.  Work was quite busy but that's better than being bored, right?  Fashion Week has begun and so far I am hoping to get to a fun press brunch on Monday (if I can spare a couple hours away from the office) and we'll see if I get invited to anything else.  Although, my email being on the fritz might pose a problem because my contacts may be emailing me without checking the blog and seeing it's not working....ahh!

I hope everyone on the East Coast is ready for Winter Storm Nemo's arrival.  I don't have much food in the house so if we get snowed in, I'm in trouble!  But I'm sure we'll all be fine, it should be a rather interesting weekend though.

This weekend I'm going to try and do something really fun for the blog, we'll see if I have time though!  I'll also be doing my usual pre-wear outfit posts for next week (unless there is too much snow outside.)  Then I'll be hanging out at home, grocery shopping and maybe baking? What are your weekend plans?

Lately I have been trying to wear pieces in my wardrobe that haven't seen much of the outside world (either because they are too dressy or I don't have much to go with them). This week it's my Burberry London dress from this Summer. I've only worn it twice (to a Wedding and a Christening) so I decided to style it down for work!  It is very thin so I paired it with tights, booties and my super warm Burberry Brit sweater (previously seen here).  Sometimes I wish I wasn't so much of a shopaholic because I already have plenty of amazing pieces in my closet to wear. But shopping is my social activity, otherwise I'd barely leave my house, so it's okay...right? ;)

Even though I love shopping, I'm going to try to cut down substantially for the next few months and, hopefully, buy nothing new (except accessories if I find good ones.)  I always try to be smart with my purchases but still end up purchasing far more than I need. Ex: I have 17 blazers...and hardly any tops (I'm not a fan of tops, I prefer sweaters)

Dress: Burberry London (Net-a-Porter Sale), Sweater: Burberry Brit (Net-a-Porter Sale), Wedges: r2 (DSW), Watch: Michael Kors (Lord & Taylor), Sunglasses: Ray Ban 'Emma' (Marshalls)

NOTE: Unfortunately I will be unable to access my regular email for 3-5 days because I couldn't reset my AT&T password and they have to send me a new one by snail mail (WHAT?!) Perfect timing too, right in the middle of fashion week...grrr! So until then, please email me via: megan[at]meganbarrow[dot]com

I know Spring feels like months away, and it is, but I could not resist sharing these few looks from the Oasis Spring/Summer 2013 collection, Bloomin' Lovely.  There are 31 looks in total and I chose my favorite 6, so there are plenty more where these come from.

I am quite surprised at my choices, I'm not usually one for such girly colors and floral prints. But I am obsessed with the printed suits below, especially the first one, simply perfect! And the bottom dresses are all equally lovely, the cut of the middle one is beautiful and I just love the watercolor-esque print on the last.

Thanks to the Oasis PR team for sending over the lookbook!
