One of the upcoming Fall trends that I've been excited about is geek glasses! I have a slight obsession with them, perhaps because I've been a Harry Potter fan for half my life.  The runways were filled with big, adorable spectacles from Marc by Marc Jacobs to Anna Sui.  A few months ago I won a gift card to Sunglasses Hut and picked up these in anticipation of the trend!  I wore them once before and decided to wear them again with a more form fitting look to offset the geeky-ness. I also pulled my T by Alexander Wang skirt a little lower than I've worn it in the past to make it more modest.

Skirt: T by Alexander Wang, Top: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Marshalls) $25, Heels: Simply Vera Wang (Kohl's) $20, Clutch made by Christine, Watch: Michael Kors, Necklace: Vanessa Mooney giveaway, Bracelet: Diamer Jewelry c/o The Missing Piece, Glasses: Sunglass Warehouse giveaway

Here are some glasses on the runway. Don't forget that Marilyn Monroe was also famous for wearing cute glasses, mostly cat eyes. Will you be rocking this trend in the next few months, or is it too weird for you?

As I mentioned yesterday, I went on a blogger date with Lydia and Amber on Saturday night in West Hartford! We headed to the Elbow Room, a fun restaurant with a rooftop bar, for dinner. Lydia and I arrived just in time for our reservation (there was traffic) but we ended up having another half hour wait to get a spot on the roof.

That happened to be just enough time for us to take some outfit photos across the street. We laughed, tried to walk while using the camera timer and had people stare at us like we were crazy. All in all, quite a good time. It's so much more fun taking outfit pictures with other people.

At the restaurant I had some mini burgers and a coke while the other girls were normal and got something alcoholic. After we had dinner we decided we wanted dessert so we went on a mission to find Barcelona, a tapas restaurant, and it turns out it was gone. We ended up at Restaurant Bricco where I had really delicious gelato! Totally worth the crazy $6 price...

Without further ado, the results of our picture taking adventure. For more photos of Amber and Lydia, see their blogs!

This was quite a busy weekend, which was a nice change from being alone all last week! Saturday I went out with Lydia and Amber (photos tomorrow!) and yesterday I went to my Grandmother's for our weekly Sunday dinner.  It was a little chilly on Sunday so I threw on my Ralph Lauren sweater to keep warm.  I do love how sparkly this Valentino tank top is, though you can't see it all too well in the photos.

I posted this interview on my Harry Potter site this morning and had to share the pictures with you because they are simply gorgeous!

Yesterday I found myself in need of a chocolately dessert, but I didn't want to run out to the grocery store. So...I broke out my go to recipe for Chocohotopots (by Nigella Lawson)! They are amazing, you will die. The recipe is really simple as well, you only need 5 ingredients (and 4 ramekins.)

Ingredients
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, with 60 percent cocoa solids
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup superfine sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Special equipment: 4 (2/3 to 1-cup capacity) ramekins
Directions
  1. Place a baking sheet in the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F.
  2. Butter the ramekins with some butter (not from the full stick).
  3. Melt the dark chocolate and 1 stick butter, then set aside to cool a little.
  4. Mix the eggs with the sugar and flour with a hand whisk and beat in the cooled butter/chocolate mixture.
  5. Divide the mixture between the 4 buttered ramekins.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes, by which time the tops will be cooked and cracked and the chocolate gooey underneath.
  7. Then let cool and enjoy!!! :D

This past weekend when I was home, my mom and I went through her old patterns because we are trying to recreate this Michael Kors skirt (because I obviously can't afford it.) We came across one for a dress she wore to some weddings. I asked if she still had it and, it turns out it was one of her favorites, so she did!

She made the dress back in 1994 (when I was 5) and here I am wearing it in 2012, 18 years later, funny how things work out that way.  She used to make a lot of her clothes, clothes for my sister and I, and even our American Girl Dolls! Unfortunately I didn't inherit her patience so I'm not very good at sewing, though I have made a few pieces (and quilts)

The last picture is my mom in the dress at a wedding with my brother. Sadly I couldn't find a really good shot of my mom in the dress, it looks better on the videos we have, but I didn't have time to get a screenshot from a home video.

I look freakishly skinny in the last shot, I swear I didn't Photoshop it, haha...
Happy Wednesday everyone!!  Originally I was going to share something else with you today, but then Zara's August lookbook came out and I had to share it first! Can we talk about how gorgeous the nude sequin(?) embellished dress is? Here it is along with some of the other looks I love.

P.S. Speaking of lookbooks, net-a-porter released it's first ever online lookbook! For the first time you can preview all the fall collections by logging in to your account.  Simply log in to your account (or create one) and click on "My Lookbook"  Then you can register your interest on the pieces you love and they will let you know when they arrive! Simple as that!
