And now time for my August 2011 recap! I spent money this month, but NONE of it was on clothes, just stuff for my new house! GO ME! Well, technically I did buy clothes [the 2 ShopBop sweaters], but I had a gift card so it wasn't "real" money ;)
I think knowing that I had to spend a lot of money on stuff for my house motivated me to keep with my spending challenge. Hopefully next month goes as well...but I doubt it seeing as I'm going shopping in NYC this weekend with another blogger and need a bit of retail therapy after all the stressfulness of this past month. But after this weekend I plan on being a good girl again, i'm giving myself a break for ONE day, but in NYC that could be very bad...I could do some major damage ;)
I'm slowly finding it easier to say no to a lot of pieces that I want but don't need. My problem, however, is that I still say no to pieces that I want and would compliment my wardrobe. I look closely at the purchase and ask myself:
- Is this item durable, will it be able to withstand being worn a LOT without dying?
- Is this something that will transition for use in all 4 seasons (or most)?
- Can I wear it when I'm older?
- Is it too trendy?
- If it is a trend, is it something that I know I will still like and wear even when it goes "out of style"?
And finally, for a bit of fun, net-a-porter emailed with some news! They have made a Weekend Chic shop where you can find your perfect Labor Day outfit! ALSO, you can purchase the Net-a-Porter Fall/Winter 2001 Magazine for $11! "The Fall Winter 2011 magazine is your must-have guide for the hottest new-season trends. With 160 glossy pages of high-fashion editorial content, it's packed full of inspirational shoots, styling ideas, designer interviews and beauty tips, as well as our edit of the chicest runway looks to keep you on-trend."
Congrats on sticking to your challenge. The question you listed are good for shopping.

damn, i want that labor day look.
ReplyDeleteglad you stayed under budget, and are going shopping! Are you going to any of the nyc fashion week meet ups?
And, do you really think you are going to want to wear any of those clothes you are wearing now when you are older? I mean, I have perfectly good things in my closet from three years ago that I've worn a ton of times, but i'm just TIRED of them. I mean, as someone who loves fashion and loves to shop, its hard to buy something and think, yeah, i'll still wear this in 10 years.
I really should keep in mind your rules when i go shopping! I too have been spending allot of money on my new house, but i have been investing in it! I find it so much easier to be tough with myself about house spending rather than clothes shopping!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun in NYC Shopping!

Congrats to the winner :)
ReplyDeleteThe main thing I ask myself when looking to buy a new piece is: How much use will I really get out of this? and: How many other pieces in my wardrobe will the piece go with?
Have a great trip, I'm so jealous! I love NYC. Take lots of photos!

I love the orange dress!
ReplyDeleteAll those things you think of are good. The new questions on my list are: 1) Would I wear it on the blog? (Because a lot of my old stuff I wouldn't, which is a sure sign I shouldn't have bought it, whether because of colour, cut, or whatever) and 2) Am I just wanting this for the blog? Because we all know, having a blog makes you want things that you know your readers will love. But that's no way to build a wardrobe. So yeah! ; ) Well done on not spending money on clothes this month!
